For a long time I’ve been telling myself:
“I should learn basic software development”
Why? Because it’s an outlet for creativity. Because I like logic and mathematics. Because it’s useful for building small projects or prototyping in a startup. Because every growing company needs more devs. At the same time, though, I’ve been telling myself:
“I’m a business developer, not a software developer”
But as I have few time-consuming commitments these days, it was finally time to overcome the latter self-convincing phrase. I’ve tried different online courses before, but never finished any of them. One week ago I started the Scrimba course Frontend Developer Career Path.
The last week of learning basic HTML/CSS/JS has been really rewarding and fun. I’ve tried to do it as much and as often as possible. I also write a small diary every day, so that when I inevitably feel like quitting, I can hopefully be motivated by my own previous motivation and kind words.
According to Scrimba, “You can complete the career path in three months if you are fast“. My goal is to finish it in less than one month - before the end of October. I’m currently done with 18% of the course, so now that 1/3 of October belongs to the past, I’m behind schedule. But to hold me accountable, I’ve made it a bet, as I usually do. If I succeed, my brother will take me out for a nice dinner. There’s no downside apart from pride though. That’s why I’ve now also told you guys, soback to coding - no time to lose!
